Measure
Competitors
See which brands AI answers put next to yours, how often each one is named and recommended, and which sources lift them.
The Competitors tab answers a simple question: when an AI engine answers one of your prompts, who else does it name? It ranks your brand against the rivals you track, shows how often each one is named and actually recommended, and lets you open any rival to see the sources and questions it wins. Use it to decide who to track and where you are losing ground.
Where to find it
In the sidebar, open AEO Insights and choose the Competitors tab (https://app.rixe.ai/insights?tab=competitors). The filter strip above the tab applies here: time window (Last 7 / 30 / 90 days), engines, topics, persona, market and the Unbranded switch. The Download button saves the comparison table as CSV.
How competitors get onto the list
There are two ways in, and both are kept on purpose:
- Suggested competitors. Every measured answer is read for brand names. A brand that keeps appearing next to yours but is not tracked yet shows up in the Suggested competitors card, with how many times it was mentioned (for example "7 mentions"). A name must have been seen at least 3 times to be suggested, and the card shows the ten most frequent.
- Your own list. Rivals you add by hand, including ones no answer has named yet. A rival you are losing to invisibly is exactly the one worth tracking.
Competitors found during setup are added automatically; see Quickstart.
Add a competitor by hand
- On the Competitors tab, click Add in the page header.
- Enter the Name and, if you know it, the Domain (for example
rival.com). The domain matters: two companies share a name far more often than a domain, and the domain is what lets Rixe match the rival's own pages and show its logo. - Click Add. The rival appears in the table and is measured from the next daily run onwards.
Approve or dismiss a suggestion
On each suggestion card, click Add to start tracking the brand or Ignore to dismiss it. When you approve a suggestion without a domain, Rixe tries to look the company's website up for you; if it cannot find one, the brand keeps a letter tile instead of a guessed logo.
New suggestions also arrive in your Inbox under New competitor suggestions, but only once a brand has been named in at least 5 answers.
Reading the comparison
The top of the tab shows three numbers:
| Card | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Tracked brands | How many competitors you track in this workspace. |
| Your rank | Your position among all brands in the table, by mention rate ("of 6 brands"). |
| Visibility | Your mention rate in the window, with the leader's rate beside it when the leader is not you. |
The Tracked brands table is ordered by mention rate. Your own brand is highlighted.
| Column | What it means |
|---|---|
| Brand | The brand name. Click it to open the brand's profile (yours too). |
| Visibility | Share of measured answers that named the brand. |
| Recommended | Of the answers that named the brand, how many actually recommended it. Being mentioned and being recommended are not the same thing, and they are fixed by different work. Empty when the brand was never named. |
| Position | Average position at which the brand was named in the answer (1 = first). |
| Sentiment | Average tone of the answers about the brand, 0–100. Green from 60, amber from 40, red below. |
Every rate is built from at least 4 runs; with fewer, the profile marks it "Only N runs — this rate is not reliable" instead of presenting it as a finding. See Visibility score for how rates and confidence intervals are computed.
Sources that lift a rival
On a competitor's row, click Its sources. A table opens below: Sources that lift {brand}, the domains cited in answers that mentioned this rival over the selected window.
- Answers: how many answers mentioning the rival cited that domain.
- Also cites us: Yes if the same domain also appears in answers that name you, No if it never does.
The rows marked No are your outreach candidates: sites that already shape answers in your category but only carry the rival. Click a domain to open its detail page if it is already in your source library. Click Its sources again to close the table. To work these sites, see Sources, outreach and PR.
Generate a comparison page
Each competitor row has a Generate comparison page button. It queues a "you vs this rival" brief for the content engine, written only from the sources Rixe has collected. The button shows Comparison brief queued. when it worked; the brief then appears on the Content page. See Content.
The competitor profile
Click any brand name to open its profile (https://app.rixe.ai/competitors/<id>). You can switch the window at the top. The profile shows, on one page:
- KPI cards: the rival's visibility (with its confidence interval, or the "not reliable" note when runs are thin), Avg. rank, Share of voice and Sentiment, each with your own value beside it.
- Score trend: the rival's mention rate day by day against yours. The shading is that day's confidence range.
- Topic strengths: its mention rate in every topic next to yours, strongest topic first.
- Sources that lift {brand}: the same table as above.
- Questions it wins: questions where the rival was named and you were not.
- Timeline of moves: what changed in the window, derived from stored data: New source, Lost source, New content, Jump and Drop.
- Its pages the AI shows: pages on the rival's own domain that answers cite, with first and last seen dates. This needs a domain on record; without one the card asks you to add it on the Competitors page.
Limits
How many competitors you can track per workspace depends on your plan:
| Plan | Competitors per workspace |
|---|---|
| Solo | 5 |
| Growth | 10 |
| Scale | 25 |
| Leader and every agency plan | Unlimited |
When you hit the cap, adding or approving another competitor is refused until you remove one. See Plans and limits.
Common questions
A rival I added shows no numbers. New competitors are measured from the next daily run. Their rates fill in as runs accumulate, and stay "not reliable" until there are at least 4.
Why does a rival's visibility differ from its share of voice? Visibility is the share of answers that named it. Share of voice is its slice of all brand mentions in those answers, so it also depends on how many other brands were named.
Suggestions show brands that are not competitors. Click Ignore. Suggestions come from names the engines put next to you, which can include marketplaces, review sites or partners.
