Site agent
Put a small answer box on your own website that answers visitors from your knowledge base, collects their details and turns unanswered questions into prompts to measure.
The Site agent is a small chat widget you embed on your own website. It answers visitors from your knowledge base, remembers every question, can ask visitors for their details or pass them to a person, and turns the questions it could not answer into prompts you can measure. What your visitors ask is also a good list of what people ask the AI engines.
Where to find it
Actions › Site agent (https://app.rixe.ai/site-agent). The screen has four tabs: Settings, Appearance, What visitors ask and Left in the widget.
How it answers
Answering is cheap by design:
- A question it has seen before is answered from memory, at no cost.
- A new question is first matched against your knowledge base. If a passage fits, one short call on a small model composes the answer from it.
- Past your allowance or budget, the widget still answers — from the best knowledge-base passage alone, marked as such. It never goes silent on a visitor.
- If nothing in the knowledge base fits, the visitor sees your Fallback message, and the question is recorded as unanswered.
Feed it first
The agent only knows what is in your knowledge base. Add your FAQ, pricing and product pages there before you switch it on.
Setting it up
- Open the Settings tab and press Switch on and get the code.
- Under Allowed sites, list every site the widget may run on, one origin per line — for example
https://www.example.com. This is required: while the list is empty, every question is refused for safety. - Set the Monthly model budget (USD) and New questions per day. Repeated questions are free and do not count. Past the daily cap, visitors see your fallback message; past the budget, answers come from the passage alone.
- Write the Fallback message, shown when nothing in the knowledge base answers the question.
- Copy the Embed code and paste it before
</body>on your site, or into a Tag Manager custom HTML tag. The box appears in the bottom corner of every page. - Check that The widget answers visitors is on, and save.
The embed code looks like this:
<script src="https://…/widget/embed.js?v=…&k=YOUR_KEY" data-key="YOUR_KEY" async></script>The key is public on purpose
The key sits in your page source, where any visitor can read it. What protects the widget is your Allowed sites list. If you need to replace the key, press Mint a new key — the old key stops working at once, and every site using it must be updated.
Settings take effect from the next question; you do not need to touch your website again.
Appearance and behaviour
The Appearance tab controls how the widget looks and behaves, with a live Preview:
- Appearance — Accent colour, Theme (follow the visitor, always light, always dark), Corner rounding, Side (end or start of the page, so it also works for right-to-left sites), Distance from the edges, Font, Avatar image and Extra CSS.
- Texts — Title (empty uses your brand name), Input placeholder, Welcome message, Teaser bubble and Error message.
- Behaviour — Starter questions (one per line, at most six; empty offers the questions visitors ask most), Suggest follow-up questions, Ask whether the answer helped, Show which page an answer came from, Open by itself when the page loads, Teaser delay (seconds), Remember the conversation (until the visitor clears it, until the tab closes, or not at all) and Hide on screens narrower than.
- Contact form — Ask visitors for their details, When to ask (only when the agent cannot answer, after a few answers, or both), which Fields (name, email, phone, company, message), the question the form asks and a Thank-you message.
- Talk to a person — Let visitors ask for a person. The conversation and the visitor's details are emailed to the address in Send these to.
Reading the results
The top of the screen shows Distinct questions (with total asks), Unanswered, and Answers this month against the allowance in your plan.
What visitors ask lists every question with how it was handled, filterable by Answered, Passage only and Unanswered (a question refused by the daily cap shows as Capped). Next to a question, Track as prompt adds it to your measured prompts, so you can see whether the AI engines answer it — and whether they name you.
Left in the widget lists the details visitors left through the contact form, and those who Asked for a person. Mark handled when you have followed up; Reopen puts it back.
Limits and plans
- Each plan includes a monthly number of model-composed answers, counted across your whole organisation. Only genuinely new questions count; repeats are served from memory. See Plans and limits.
- On agency plans, each composed answer draws credits from that site's share instead.
- Past the allowance the widget keeps answering from the knowledge-base passage alone.
Common questions
The widget shows on my site but refuses every question. Your site's address is not in Allowed sites, or it is written differently (for example http vs https, or with and without www). Add each origin exactly as the browser shows it.
Visitors get the fallback message for obvious questions. The knowledge base has no passage that answers them. Add the content to the knowledge base; the next new question will use it.
Does the widget slow my page down? The script loads with async, so it does not block the page.
